Cheongsam (qipao) is a one-piece dress for women. Cheongsam were introduced during the Qing Dynasty (17th century – 20th century). In 1929, the Cheongsam was chosen by the National Republic of China to be one of the national clothes. Traditionally, these dresses made of silk and embroidered with pearls and other decorations. It can also made of satin, brocade, velvet, lace and cotton. The modern Cheongsam comes in variety of styles and shapes. These contemporary versions include the top emblazoned with printed art that paired with skirts, pants or jeans. Nowadays, Cheongsam is used for formal occasions such as weddings, parties and beauty pageants.
